Can your kid get into a decent college?

How does he "stack up" compared to the competition?

What specific strategies will improve chances of acceptance to his "Dream School?"

Do you make too much to qualify for scholarships or other financial aid or can you "beat the system?"

How can she possibly stand out from 50,000 competitors who look the same on paper?

Those are just some of the questions we'll explore at your workshop.  Other topics include:

  • The inconvenient truth about what it takes -- beyond solid grades and near-perfect SATs, "passion projects" and other nonsense -- to get accepted to a top college today [WARNING:  Not "Politically Correct"]
  • Financial Aid "Loopholes" - how to legally "hide" your money from the financial aid office
  • How to avoid Admissions Armageddon and build a balanced, strategic college list
  • Are there any Safety Schools any more?
  • Stone cold facts about how college admissions officers view test-optional applications
  • Extracurricular activities that "sell" verses those that bore
  • How to qualify for 56.2% off the cost of college even if you think you make too much money to have a shot at aid
  • Negotiation Case Study: How a mild-mannered college advisor squeezed an additional $30,058 from a elite West Coast college...after it's so-called "Final Offer"
  • The strange, counter-intuitive reason why six and seven-figure earning families have a better shot at some types of aid than lower earners
  • Got a 529?  Watch out. The shocking reason why that could be a fatal mistake (and how you might be able to fix things at the last minute)
  • How an "expensive" private college could cost less out of pocket than a "cheaper" state university
  • More (this page is long enough ready) -- we'll save time for Q&A!

The Weston High School PTO hosted Andy for an extremely informative and entertaining seminar.

Andrew Lockwood has conducted two classes at the South Huntington Public library.  Each event was well attended and parents seemed to be very interested in the material presented. I would recommend that any library in an area with a significant population of college-bound children host a similar workshop with Mr. Lockwood.

Please thank Andy Lockwood for his wonderful presentation at our recent Board Meeting.  We found it very informative and helpful.

I am sure a lot of the parents who attended the presentation will be following up with him for subsequent meetings.

Thanks again,- Lisa Edelblum

Questions You May Have

is there a fee for the workshop?

Nope.

Why isn't there a fee for the workshop -- are you selling something the way they do on those timeshare presentations?

The workshop is free and pitch-free.  But we're both adults and I'm sure you realize that giving these presentations promotes public awareness of our college advisory business.

But there is nothing to buy at this educational workshop, even if you wanted to.  (If you are interested in learning about our college advisory services, we'll put you in touch with an enrollment advisor for a private meeting, if we are currently taking on new clients.)

How long is the workshop?

The presentation runs approximately 50 minutes, not including Q&A.

Should I bring anything to the workshop?

Bring a pen and notebook, and get ready to take a lot of notes.

Should I bring my son or daughter to the workshop?

Not a bad idea, but it's up to you.  Most parents don't, but some do.

If I've already gone to my high school's College Night do I need to come to this?

This workshop is much different than the typical high school presentation.

Is your workshop appropriate for easily-offended, overly sensitive parents without a sense of humor?

Hard no.
